The Great Barrier Reef

Over 1400 miles long, the Great Barrier Reef is off the coast of Queensland, Australia. It is the biggest coral reef system in the world. Today, I got on a large boat, went 2 hours out into the ocean and then jumped in the ocean to snorkel around a part of the reef. I wore a wet suit because the ocean was cold. It was a little scary at first because the ocean was rough but once I got used to it I was able to just float and look down at beautiful colorful fish and coral.

They took us to a second coral reef location and because it was now low tide the coral was very close. It was beautiful but also a bit sad to see a good amount of bleached coral. The white color shows that it was no longer alive.
