The Daintree Rainforest is in the far north of Queensland, Australia. It is a remote area with one main road going in and out. This rainforest has been dated to be the oldest tropical rainforest on earth. While the Amazon Rainforest is bigger, this area has been dated back to 200 million years ago.
The weather was beautiful as the winter in Queensland is the dry season and the afternoon temperatures were about 70 degrees. I saw incredible examples of all the layers of the rainforest- the forest floor, the understory, and the canopy. I even stayed at a hotel located right in the rainforest with a screened porch that I was able to leave open at night to hear and see the nocturnal wildlife.
Here are just a few examples of the rainforest I visited.
